DRFC Mixed injury news for Rovers midfielders

Doncaster Rovers boss Brian Flynn says he had to withdraw David Syers early in the second half with an ankle injury.

Syers suffered a knock late in the first half of the defeat at Bury on Saturday and Flynn says the midfielder tried to play on early in the second half but it was clear he was still struggling with the injury.

Speaking on BBC Radio Sheffield, Flynn said, "He has an ankle injury. Typical of David and typical of the group, he said he wanted to go back out in the second half but we could see early on he wasn`t right."

Rovers will now assess Syers over the next week before making a decision on his availability for the home game with Walsall next weekend.

There was still no place in the squad on Saturday for fellow midfielder Martin Woods, who has recently returned from injury.

Woods has been missing since November with a thigh injury and he completed 50 minutes on Monday in a practice game at Manchester United.

Flynn is confident Woods will be available for the game with Walsall next weekend. "Martin Woods has done 50 minutes in a game plus a few days training. I am sure a full week of training will do him the world of good and I am sure he will be involved in some way next week," continued Flynn.

It has been a frustrating few seasons for Woods, who has been beset with injuries in recent seasons.

Woods had made just 20 appearances in the past two seasons but returned at the start of this season fully fit after finally overcoming on-going hip and groin problems.

The 27-year-old was a regular in the Rover side before his injury in the game with Oldham in November, making 18 appearances so far this season.

Hopefully it is nothing to serious for Syers and it will be good to have Woods back to add more competition for places.
