DRFC Flynn - It was a point gained

Doncaster Rovers boss Brian Flynn felt it was a point gained rather than two points dropped after seeing his league leaders held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Portsmouth at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Flynn felt his side were not at their best in the game, especially going forward.

'I think it's a point gained, because I don't think we were at our best today, especially in the second half," Flynn told Radio Sheffield.

'We weren't good going forward and that's part of our strengths.

'We have got a strong defensive unit, a strong side defensively, we know that. But I don't think our service to our two main strikers was good today.'/em>

It all looked to be going to plan for Rovers who led at half time thanks to Chris Brown netting his tenth of the season.

Rovers should have already been ahead when Billy Paynter got in behind the Portsmouth defence but he could only fire straight at the goalkeeper.

Portsmouth made Rovers pay with fifteen minutes remaining when Jed Wallace had time and space to pick his spot.

David Cotterill and Rob Jones had good chances to win the game for Rovers after the equaliser and substitute Dean Furman almost made a dream debut when his late strike was tipped around the post.

The point did move Rovers further ahead at the top of League One with Sheffield United suffering a surprise 4-0 defeat at Stevenage. Brentford leapfrogged them in the table thanks to a last minute penalty in the 1-0 home win over Preston North End and they trail Rovers by two points.

Next weekend could prove pivotal to the season with Brentford making the trip to Sheffield United whilst Doncaster Rovers make the short trip to Scunthorpe United.
