DRFC Flynn - Defeat was a kick in the teeth
Doncaster Rovers boss Brian Flynn says the defeat at Coventry City was a kick in the teeth.
After a fairly lacklustre first half that saw Coventry lead thanks to a Cyrus Christie strike. Flynn changed things about at half time with the introduction of Dean Furman in midfield and it was almost one-way traffic as Rovers searched for an equaliser. Whilst Flynn had no qualms with the score at half time, he felt Rovers deserved something for a superb second half performance.
Speaking on Radio Sheffield, Flynn said, 'The better team led at half-time, that's for certain, they were better than us.
'Midway through the first half we tried to make a tactical change on the field with the players.
'We did at half-time and I think it worked really well tactically and it was literally one way traffic second half.
'The result is a slight kick in the teeth for us, they're the first team to do a double over us, so you have to give them some credit, but tactically we were superb second half and had some great chances.'
Furman made an instant impression for Rovers in the second half and he saw an effort come back off the post.
David Cotterill twice went close for Rovers and Furman had another chance but he couldn`t keep his header down.
In the closing moments, Rovers efforts in front of goal were summed up when Cotterill saw his effort beat Joe Murphy in the Coventry goal but hit the inside of a Coventry defenders legs and go just wide.
Despite the defeat, Rovers remain at the top of League One although their lead is now down to two points.
Rovers have two massive games at the Keepmoat coming up in the next week with third placed Swindon Town visiting on Monday followed by sixth placed Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.
