League One Round-up Wins for Cherries and Glovers

League One Round-up Wins for Cherries and Glovers

Doncaster Rovers enjoyed another good day in League One as they moved closer to an instant return to the championship.

Rovers are five points clear of Brentford in third place in the table after a 1-0 home win over fellow promotion hopefuls Swindon Town at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Bournemouth continued their good run with a fifth win in a row with a 1-0 home win over relegation threatened Scunthorpe United at home. Brett Pittman scored for the fifth game in a row for Bournemouth after just eleven minutes and they remain two points behind Rovers but they have played a game more.

Brentford missed out on the chance to keep up the pressure on the top two as they went down to a 2-0 defeat at MK Dons. The defeat for Brentford leaves them in third, five points behind Rovers but with a game in hand, that game being at Sheffield United.

Sheffield United were held to another goalless draw at home by Carlisle United. The blades have now drawn their last three games at home 0-0 and they are six points behind Rovers with two games in hand.

Yeovil kept up their hopes of an automatic promotion place thanks to a 2-1 win at Notts County. Paddy Madden was again on target for Yeovil, his 13th goal in his last 15 games.

The Glovers leapfrogged above Tranmere Rovers into the final play-off place after Tranmere were beaten 1-0 at Portsmouth.

Rovers meet Tranmere on Saturday and a win for Rovers would secure the minimum of a play-off place this season.

Walsall kept up their late surge for a play-off place with an emphatic 4-0 home win over Coventry City.

The saddlers are three points off a play-off place and they welcome Sheffield United on Saturday.

Leyton Orient kept up their slim hopes of creeping into the play-off places with a 2-0 home win over Bury. Orient are four points outside the play-off places with just four games remaining. The defeat for Bury leaves them seven points from safety with five games remaining.

Also at the foot of the table, Hartlepool United could be relegated on Saturday after they lost 1-0 at Stevenage.
Hartlepool are now eight points from safety with just four games remaining.

Oldham climbed above Scunthorpe and out of the relegation places on goal difference after their 1-1 home draw against Colchester United.

A defeat for Hartlepool on Saturday and a win for either Oldham or Scunthorpe will see them relegated.
