More Cup Joy For Donny

When Doncaster are at home in the Carling Cup, you would be a fool to miss the game. Last season under the leadership of Dave Penney, Man City and Aston Villa exited the competition at Belle Vue. Arsenal were seconds away from suffering humiliation by the League One club.

In the first round in this seasons competition, Rovers won by the odd goal in five against Rochdale.

Tonight fans witnessed another six goals as well as 16 penalty kicks.

Rovers were coasting with a three nil lead, but slack play and the manager failing to make substitutions to replace tired legs allowed Derby to get back into the game.

In typical Rovers fashion, the lads were hanging on towards the end of normal time.

Derby were reduced to ten men during the first period of extra-time and this spurred Rovers on and they dominated the period. However, for all the play, they could not find another goal and the tie went to penalties, just as it had at the same stage last season.

Once again, Rovers had Jan Budtz in the net, hoping to reproduce his heroics of last year.

All the penalties were 'different class' and Rovers won the lottery to progress to the next round.

Good win, but we allowed them back in the game. McDaid was excellent. Griffith did really well playing out of position when he came on. Change choice of subs, 3 CM!

Well done Donny.

I thought the lad from Preston was excellent, I hope we can keep him. I was struggling to work out who was playing where and the formation though.

Did we lose our structure to allow Derby to come back? The first goal was a deflection. The second was a good goal and I thought the third goal was handball. However it was a win and thats what keeps Managers in their jobs, and supporters happy.

You showed great mental strength to lose a three goal lead and then win on penalties. Well done!
