DRFC Flynn - We never got going after poor start
Doncaster Rovers boss Brian Flynn says his side never got going as they crashed to a 1-0 home defeat to Notts County.
Rovers went into the game knowing a win could secure them promotion if other results went their way but they went down to a solitary strike from Joss Labadie on 14 minutes.
Flynn felt his side never recovered from a poor opening to the game and despite being cheered on by the biggest Rovers following at the Keepmoat this season, they never recovered. "It was a big occasion and a great crowd and everything was pointing in our direction but unfortunately it didn`t happen," Flynn told Radio Sheffield.
"You look at the first ten minutes when normally our tempo is high and we play in the oppositions half and we just didn`t do it, we made the wrong decisions and it set us up for a poor first half.
"We just couldn`t get out of the grip Notts County had on us."
Rovers had chances with Dean Furman having the ball in the net only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.
James Coppinger also saw an effort cleared off the line as they tried to draw level before the break.
Despite having nothing but pride to play for, Notts County were throwing themselves on the line and Billy Paynter and Iain Hume both saw goalbound efforts blocked.
In the dying seconds, Rovers threw everyone forward including goalkeeper Neil Sullivan and Captain Rob Jones saw his header go just wide with the last attempt of a frustrating afternoon.
With Brentford drawing at Hartlepool, the two sides now meet at Griffin Park on Saturday. A draw would be enough for Rovers to win promotion.
