DRFC Coppinger gets shirty following title win
Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger says he would like to have his shirt back after throwing it into the crowd at Brentford on Saturday.
After scoring the winning goal deep into added time on Saturday, Coppinger celebrated by throwing his shirt into the travelling Rovers fans behind the goal.
Rovers had to find Coppinger a fresh shirt before the game could be finished but now the clubs longest serving player says he would like the shirt back as a keep sake.
Taken from the Daily Mirror, Coppinger said, "I said to my room-mate Dean Furman that if I scored in the last minute, my shirt was coming off - and that`s what happened. It came off, it disappeared into the crowd and I`ve never seen it since.
"I wouldn`t mind having that shirt on the wall, so if anyone out there has got it, I`ll have it back please!"
Coppinger is the clubs longest-serving player having signed from Exeter City in 2004 and in a twist of fate, he might not have been at the club had Nottingham Forest not sacked Sean O`Driscoll in December.
The former Rovers boss signed Coppinger on loan for the first half of the season as Rovers looked to dramatically reduce their wage bill following their relegation from the championship last season.
Following the sacking of O`Driscoll by Forest over the festive period, Coppinger returned to the Keepmoat at the start of January.
With Rovers in the promotion picture, the club decided to hold onto the midfielder instead of offloading him during the transfer window and he was a key part of the success in the second half of the season.
Coppinger made 22 appearances in the second half of the season following his return to the club and he has now amassed over 350 career appearances for Rovers.
