DRFC Dickov doesn't rule out Shay Given deal

Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov refused to rule out a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given following reports this week that the vastly experienced goalkeeper was set to sign for Rovers on a season long loan.

Rovers are currently without a senior goalkeeper following the departure of both Neil Sullivan and Gary Woods this summer and Given, who is seen as surplus to requirements at Villa Park, is being strongly linked with a move to the Keepmoat.

As well as being reported as being on the verge of a deal with Given, the club are being reported as being on the verge of a huge cash injection from an Irish consortium, who want to bankroll the deal to bring the Republic of Ireland international to the Keepmoat, who is reportedly on £60,000 a week at Villa Park.

Dickov wouldn`t be drawn on the situation when talking to reporters following the 0-0 draw with Motherwell on Saturday, in Rovers latest pre-season game. "I cannot confirm or deny it," he told Radio Sheffield when pressed on the matter.

Rovers are also being linked with Given`s teammates at Villa Park, Richard Dunne and Stephen Ireland as the Irish consortium, want to bring the experienced trio of Irish internationals into the club.

It could be a very interesting few weeks at the Keepmoat Stadium as we build up to the new championship season that starts on August 3rd.

He would be an amazing signing, as would Richard Dunne and Stephen Ireland.
