Rovers really have to start winning games and soon. Blackpool`s victory over Brighton on Sunday saw them move above Rovers, pushing Doncaster into the bottom four. Its worrying. Very worrying. After yet another draw on Friday against Oldham, Donny fans are looking nervously at the fixture list for the next month. A 6 pointer against Cheltenham next week, another local derby against Chesterfield, a trip to high flying Bristol City and a tricky home game against Leyton Orient, not exactly easy pickings. Then its Millwall and Brighton, talk about relegation dog fight!
Having said that, all games are there for the taking. Sean O`Driscoll must change his formation to play 4-4-2 with width and play to our strengths, with the players we have, not try and force the team to play a system we don`t have the players to play. The only highlights from Friday nights game when the players drifted into old habits and played 4-4-2, getting the ball out wide.
It was always going to be hard to replace the most successful manager in Roves history but to go from that to this in one quick move is disastrous. Unless John Ryan moves quickly to make amends for this poor appointment all his good work will be undone and he will be remembered as the Chairman who made the biggest stuff up in Rovers history, rather than the saviour he wants to be known as.
There`s no excuse, no moaning that they aren`t SOD`s players, or they won`t play as he directs. We`ve nosed dived since Penney left in terms of quality of play. What`s changed? Its not difficult to see.
Oldham was a must win game. We drew. Cheltenham is a must win game. A seriously must win game.
