DRFC Dickov - Rovers well below the standards set

Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov felt it might have been one game to many for his small squad after a lacklustre display at Bolton Wanderers.

Rovers went down to a 3-0 defeat at the Reebok in their fifth game in two weeks, three of those on the road, and with injuries taking its toll on his small squad; he has had to stick with almost the same starting eleven throughout.

Speaking on BBC Radio Sheffield, Dickov said, "We dropped well below the standards that we have set ourselves.

"Bolton came out and they were on the front foot and we sat off them far too much and it looked like we were playing the game in one half.

"We tried to sort it out at half time but all over, we looked leggy and we were half a yard short.

It might have been one game too many in a short space of time with such a small squad."

Rovers did start slowly and they trailed 2-0 at the break. It could have been all so different though, Theo Robinson hitting a post with his header when the score was 0-0. It did take Bolton 33 minutes to break Rovers down and the first goal was rather fortuitous with Joe Mason`s weak effort taking a huge deflection off Rovers defender Luke McCullough.

Bolton only had to wait six minutes for their second, this time Andre Moritz firing in from the edge of the penalty area. The home side scored their third in stoppage time when substitute Neil Danns swept home.

The scoreline was probably a true reflection on the game with Rovers goalkeeper Ross Turnbull once again in great form, denying Bolton on a number of occasions.

Fed up of hearing this same excuse. He said the same at Charlton, when Bournemouth beat us and Middlesbrough. Sort it out then Dickov!
Got to agree. The one good thing is we usually respond well after a poor result. Next weekend when Weeds visit is the ideal time.
