DRFC Scunthorpe keen to extend Syers loan

DRFC Scunthorpe keen to extend Syers loan

Scunthorpe United are keen to extend the loan of Doncaster Rovers midfielder David Syers into a third month.

Former Rovers player Russ Wilcox is currently in temporary charge at Scunthorpe following the sacking of Brian Laws last month and with Syers in great form at Glanford Park, having netted three times in his last three games, Wilcox is keen to extend the loan into the New Year.

Speaking in the Scunthorpe Telegraph , Wilcox said, "Hopefully Doncaster will be okay with him staying. It`s a question we need to ask, but one we haven`t asked at the moment.

"We`ve played a quiet game, hoping that they are going to get a few bodies back.

"Dean Furman just had the one game ban and he`s now back in the picture.

"They won also at the weekend so we`re hoping they are going to be happy with their squad and that Dave can stay with us a bit longer."

Syers has made ten appearances for Scunthorpe since joining them in October, helping them to six wins, which have propelled them up the League Two table. They are now in the play-off places and just one point of the top after winning their last three games.

Rovers were keen to recall the 26-year-old midfielder recently after a number of injuries to their squad but they were unable to this due to Football League restrictions. Usually clubs can include a recall clause in a loan contract once the initial month on loan has expired but because Syers staggered his two loan spells, the 28-day recall rule for could not be enforced.

Syers is due to return to the Keepmoat after Scunthorpe`s game at Wycombe Wanderers this weekend.

I have always liked Syers. Thought he might have got more of a chance this season.
