DRFC Horton backing Macheda to come good

Doncaster Rovers assistant manager Brian Horton is backing Manchester United striker Federico Macheda to come good after failing to find the net in his second spell at the Keepmoat.

Macheda hit three goals in five games during his first spell with Rovers earlier in the season before being forced to return to Manchester United after suffering a hamstring injury in the win over Leicester City.

The young Italian striker returned to Rovers in November until the New Year but so far, he has failed to score in his six games since returning.

Horton told the Doncaster Free Press , "Federico will come good, he`s a good finisher. He`s been excellent. He came from one of the biggest clubs in the world and I`ve seen many people throughout my career come and think 'this is a bit small for me or whatever`.

"But he hasn`t. He`s embraced the whole situation. He`s got on with the lads and he`s good trainer. Strikers go through those patches.

"But it`s not just him - the bottom line is we haven`t scored enough goals.

"Macheda needs a goal, but so does Browny, so does Theo, so do our midfield players."

Rovers biggest problem at the moment is a failure to convert chances, scoring just three goals in their last five games and Theo Robinson is the only striker to score in their last seven games when he netted against Queens Park Rangers last month.

Rovers travel to Derby County today desperate to find some form as they go into the busy festive period with the relegation pack closing in on them.
