DRFC Dickov keen to see Macheda return

Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov is still hoping to bring on loan Manchester United striker Federico Macheda back to the club with his loan deal set to expire.

Macheda, who is currently in his second stint at the Keepmoat this season, is set to return to Old Trafford after the game with Queens Park Rangers on New Year`s Day and Dickov is still hopeful that he can bring the 22-year-old back to the Keepmoat.

Speaking in the Doncaster Free Press , Dickov said, "The situation with Kiko (Macheda) is slightly different from the other players.

"We`ve been told by United that they want to take their loan players back in for a bit to assess them.

"Hopefully we can get him back out after that.

"We`re definitely looking at that."

Macheda has struggled in his second spell at the Keepmoat after enjoying a successful first month with the club. He scored three times in five games in his first stint, including both goals against Nottingham Forest on his home debut.

He was forced to return to Old Trafford after suffering a hamstring injury before he returned to Rovers in November. He has failed to score in nine appearances since his return and he has found himself amongst the substitutes in recent games with young 19-year-old striker Alex Peterson preferred in the last game against Millwall.

With the striker out of contract at Manchester United in the summer, their manager David Moyes may be looking to offload Macheda on a permanent deal in January, something that Dickov admitted last week would price them out of a move.

He's looked a shadow of the player who was with Rovers in his first month. Not sure on this one unless Man United were paying about 95% of his wages.
