DRFC Meite looking to impress the manager

DRFC Meite looking to impress the manager

Experienced defender Abdoulaye Meite says he could stay past the end of the season and he is looking to impress Doncaster Rovers manager Paul Dickov.

The vastly experienced defender signed for Rovers until the end of the season recently after training with the club since November and Meite, who has played in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion and Bolton Wanderers as well as at the top level in France with Marseille, says he is looking to impress during his time at the Keepmoat.

Speaking in the South Yorkshire Times , Meite said, "I`ve signed until the end of the season and it`s up to me do well for Doncaster.

"Afterwards we will see if I stay, and if the club is happy with me or not.

"That is the challenge for me, to impress the manager.

"He has shown faith in me and after I left Finland he showed that he wanted me. That`s always important to a player."

Meite has made two appearances since signing for Rovers and he made his home debut last weekend as Rovers won for the first time since November with a 3-0 home win over Wigan Athletic.

The 33-year-old has been joined at the Keepmoat this month by former West Brom teammate and fellow defender Gabriel Tamas.

The pair have been brought in as Rovers boss Dickov looks to add steel and experience in the defence of a side that has conceded 43 goals so far this season with only Bournemouth and Millwall having worse defensive records in the championship.

Last weekend also saw the return of young defender James Husband who impressed on his return from a long-term injury and with fellow defenders Rob Jones and Jamie McCombe also closing in on a return after lengthy lay-offs; Dickov has strength in depth in defence for the first time this season.

Rovers travel to Blackpool today looking to build on their win over Wigan last weekend as they look for back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
