DRFC Dickov -We are not safe yet

Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov insists the club are not safe from relegation yet after securing another three points with a crucial 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Rovers moved eight points clear of the relegation zone with the win as they moved onto forty points for the season.

It was a big win for Rovers, who are now nineteenth in the championship and the four teams below them in the table at the start of the day all failing to win.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Dickov said, "We have nine games left; people are saying we are safe but we are not safe yet.

"We need to keep our high standards. We need to keep it going and I will make sure it happens.

"An eight point cushion looks good at the moment but we had a eight points cushion in January and we quickly found ourselves in the bottom three so we know how quickly it to can come back and bite us on the bum, so we have to keep it going."

The win for Rovers made it ten points from a possible twelve as they continued their response from a 5-0 mauling at Bournemouth at the start of the month.

Rovers will be looking to improve their away form now having won just once on their travels this season and with two away games coming up in the next week.

Burnley are first up at Turf Moor on Tuesday night. The clarets look a good bet for automatic promotion this season and they continued their push for a return to the Premier League with a 3-0 win at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

It will be a tough test for Rovers who face a Burnley side who have the only unbeaten home record in the championship this season.

Rovers then make the short trip to Leeds United on Saturday and they will be looking for revenge following the heavy home defeat at the Keepmoat in December. It could be a good time to travel to Elland Road despite them winning for the first time at home on Saturday since December.

Rovers will look to reach the magical fifty-point mark as soon as possible although it looks like fewer points will be required to ensure safety this season.

Getting much closer now though. Fantastic achievement by Paul Dickov. I was disappointed to see him appointed manager last summer and at Christmas I was ready to see him go. Always nice to be proved wrong in a good way. Get safety sorted and then he can start sorting out new deals for the players he wants to keep.
