Man Utd youngster not expecting Rovers return
Former on loan goalkeeper Sam Johnstone says he doesn`t expect to return to Doncaster Rovers next season following their relegation.
The promising Manchester United goalkeeper spent the final four months of the season on loan at the Keepmoat and he was impressive as Rovers tried to stave of relegation from the championship.
Johnstone was in brilliant form on the final day at Leicester City and it took a penalty to beat him, a goal that would prove crucial in Rovers fight against the drop. Birmingham`s injury time equaliser at Bolton meant they jumped above Rovers on goal difference, meaning a second relegation from the championship in three seasons.
Rovers must now prepare for another season in League One and look to bounce back at the first attempt once again but Johnstone cannot see a return being on the cards.
Speaking in the South Yorkshire Times , Johnstone said, "I`d like to be playing in at least the Championship next season.
"I`ve done well at that level this season so it would be best for me to at least stay at that level.
"If Rovers had stayed up then I would definitely have been interested in coming back, if United were happy with that."
Johnstone made 18-appearances for Rovers during his loan spell at the Keepmoat with his form earning him a call-up into the England under-21 squad.
The 21-year-old signed a new three-and-a-half year deal with Manchester United in January and he certainly looks to have a bright future in the game.
