DRFC Dickov understands why Brown is leaving

Doncaster Rovers manager Paul Dickov says he would love Chris Brown to remain at the club but he cannot begrudge the striker wanting to stay in the championship.

Brown is on the verge of signing for Blackburn Rovers after activating a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Doncaster following their relegation last season.

The striker led the way in the goalscoring charts for Doncaster with nine goals last season, he was also named player of the season for his hard working displays in the Doncaster attack, and Dickov admits it is a hard move for him to turn down.

Speaking in the Doncaster Free Press , Dickov said, "I think a big part of Chris would want to stay but the lure of Championship football is too much for him. We all would love him to stay.

"But I don`t think the fans and staff at the club who saw him last season would begrudge him the move - and a decent move at this stage of his career. He was outstanding for us last season."

The 29-year-old has had two spells with Doncaster having joined the club on loan in the 2003/04 season from Sunderland, helping Doncaster win the Fourth Division title.

He returned to Sunderland before having spells at Norwich City, Hull City and Preston North End before returning to Doncaster in 2011.

During his two stays with the club, he has made 119 appearances scoring 33 goals.
