DRFC Ryan - I feel like I have signed a top player

John Ryan says it feels like he has signed a top player after teaming up with One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson to buy Doncaster Rovers.

The pair confirmed their takeover of the club on Thursday after holding talks this month and Ryan, who left his role as chairman last November, is excited to be back.

Speaking to the Doncaster Rovers official website , Ryan said, "I am delighted and terribly excited.

"To bring someone like Louis on board is almost like signing a top player.

"He can bring so much to the club in enthusiasm and endeavour."

Ryan first arrived at Doncaster in 1998 following the clubs relegation to the Football Conference and with the club on the verge of going out of existence.

The 64-year-old, who has made his money in the cosmetic surgery business promised the fans a return to the second tier of English football and a decade later, he kept his promise as Rovers beat Leeds United 1-0 at Wembley in the League One play-off final.

As well as four promotions during his first stint with the club, they picked up their first domestic honour when they lifted the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy in 2007 with a 3-2 win over Bristol Rovers.

Ryan and Tomlinson will now look to back manager Paul Dickov this summer as they look for an instant return to the championship following their relegation in May.
