Former midfielder having MLS trial with Red Bulls

Former midfielder having MLS trial with Red Bulls

Former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Martin Woods is trying to earn a deal in the MLS with New York Red Bulls.

Woods is without a club following his release from Barnsley at the end of last season.

Rovers released the 34-year-old last summer after six-years at the Keepmoat last summer but he returned on a short-term deal prior to Christmas after failing to find a new club, making five appearances before being released once again. Woods joined Barnsley and he made eight appearances for the Oakwell side.

Woods is now at the Red Bull Arena and the Bulls head coach Mike Petke has been impressed with Woods.

"He's more of a wing guy that can also come inside. Got a good work rate, got a good stature about himself. He's played at a decent level," Petke told Big Apple Soccer.

Woods has spent the past with the Red Bulls and he played in a practice game against the Red Bulls under-23 side earlier this week and Petke says he intended to make a decision by the end of this week.
