DRFC Ferguson Slams First Half Performance

DRFC Ferguson Slams First Half Performance

Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Ferguson felt the team`s performance in the first half was the worst he has seen all season.

Doncaster came from behind to clinch another point in a 1-1 draw at Colchester United and should have gone on to win the game with a much-improved second half performance but Ferguson didn`t hold back in his criticism of the side just six days after clinching promotion and he says it wasn`t acceptable.

'I'm disappointed we didn't win it in the end. We were the team in the ascendancy," Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield .

'Second half, I thought we were very good but the first half we were very, very poor. As poor as we've been for a long time.

'You have to give credit to Colchester. We knew they'd start the game lively. We knew they'd press.

'We were just second to everything.

'That was very disappointing. But the second half we showed much more what we're about and we should have won it.

'That was the most angry I've been all season - probably since we came here last year.

'We were miles off it, it just wasn't acceptable. I'm not having that, I don't care whether we've been promoted or not. I'm not interested.

"I am looking at next season and I want to win every game until the end of the season, go unbeaten and win the league."

Despite a poor first half performance, Doncaster went in level at the break. Ben Dickenson had fired the hosts into a 16th minute lead with a crisp left foot shot from inside the area and they were only denied a second when Chris Porter saw his shot comeback off the inside of a post.

Doncaster slowly got into the game and John Marquis saw his effort cleared off the line.

Mathieu Baudry equalised on the stroke of half time for Doncaster with a powerful header.

Doncaster dominated for long periods in the second half. Gary McSheffrey saw his free-kick hit the foot of the post, Tommy Rowe was denied by a block and Alfie Mason was denied by a good save by Sam Walker in the Colchester goal after he had got in behind the hosts defence.
