DRFC Ferguson Blasts Referee

DRFC Ferguson Blasts Referee

Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Ferguson blasted the referee after seeing his side lose 1-0 at home against Blackpool.

Referee Carl Boyeson sent off Matty Blair for Doncaster early in the second half and he then went on to award Blackpool two penalties in the final two-minutes of the game.

Ferguson felt the first penalty decision could have been right after Mathieu Baudry was adjudged to have handled the ball but the second penalty puzzled Ferguson with the foul looking to have taken place outside the area.

"The first one possibly it`s hit his arm," Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I can see why he`s given it. I still think it`s dubious.

"The second one`s outside the box, there`s no question about it. Once you`ve given one you have to be absolutely certain to give another one so quickly after it.

"I couldn`t understand the commotion after that when the lineman`s given a foul and the referee`s then come over and pointed outside the box but still given a penalty. But there you go, it`s part of the game.

"He gave the red card very quickly.

"If you are going to be giving out yellow cards it is fine, I have no problem with that, it is part of the game but the Blackpool number 28 committed five fouls in the first half and he never got booked. Matty Blair and Joe Wright got booked for their first fouls.

"You cannot have a game of football without a referee but we feel we were hard done by.

"The game changed on the red card."

Blackpool missed their first penalty when Mark Cullen saw his penalty hit the inside of the post and go across the goal.

Jordan Flores took the second penalty for Blackpool and he made no mistake when he smashed the ball past Marko Marosi.

It was a disappointing afternoon for Doncaster, who saw their gap at the top closed to three points after Plymouth Argyle clinched promotion with a 6-1 win over Newport County.
