'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rotherham Comments After Losing

Rotherham boss Alan Knill speaks out after losing to Doncaster Rovers.

'It was a hard fought game but you cant concede three goals, we scored two but you cant concede three. The times you concede and the times you concede kill you.

'Those that were at Millwall, you would definately taken the first half, it was a lot better but its all about goals, the good thing is that the lads kept going to the end, but theres a lot of hard work to be done thats for sure.

'We scored a good goal and they go and score stright away, the ball comes in and its a free header. It's a lack of organisation from the set peice, we do it in training, we did it yesterday and then they go to sleep so its one all. I thought the game was even first half, the next goal you dont want to concede, especially straight after half time. But we concede from a set peice and it makes it difficult.

'Where I'm sat at the moment the question is can we not concede! Every time the ball came into our box it looked like we were going to be in trouble, it was a great goal by Woodsy, its been long overdue, hes got great talent but obviously we're dissapointed in conceding three.

'The first half had everything you want in a local derby, it had passion, commitment and pride, I thought we had it most of first half but the second half goals kill you.

'For us to get out of the situation we're in we need to defend, its alright scoring goals but you can't concede three.

'I thought Chris O'Grady looked dangerous first half, I thought he looked powerful, storng and he caused them loads of problems especially down the side, but second half we just couldnt get the ball down the side. Theres lots to work on with Chris, he wants to work everyday, he wants to get better.

'At the moment it's not Chris O'Grady that concerns me, what conerns me is conceding the goals.'

I would love to listen to O'Driscolls half time team talks the last two games we have come out a different team in the second half.

Why do we have to concede goals before we start to play football?
ROversNaith
It was on the cards that you would score - can't remember the last time we scored first and went on to win
herringthorpe
its only been the last couple of games! we have been watertight for the last few months.
dazza71
We now seem to be scoring more freely than we did with Dave Penney in charge
ROversNaith
its seems hard to believe its more or less the same eleven players playing that couldn't break down a defence for o'driscolls first couple of months in charge.
dazza71
Yeah, I remember earlier on in the season when Heffernan would rather pass from the edge of the area to a player in a worse position than take a shot himself. Now look at him.
ROversNaith
what amazes me is the amount of cracking goals being scored at the new stadium we haven't seen many tap ins.
dazza71
It's the tap-ins that are being missed - a la forte!
ROversNaith
it was a crap shot by Forte that Heffernan scored his header with on saturday.
dazza71
I thought he'd laid it up nicely, but on closer inspection you can see he went for goal. Warnock was sat a couple of rows in front of me with who I guess was/is his grandson. I was noticeable how many tricks Forte tried to carry-off on the area of the pitch directly in front of the Sheff Utd manager.
