DRFC Ferguson Disappointed With Everton Midfielder

DRFC Ferguson Disappointed With Everton Midfielder

Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson says he decided against signing Everton midfielder Conor Grant after he felt he had a poor loan spell with the club.

Grant returned to Everton this week despite a deal being in place to sign him from Goodison Park,

The 22-year-old arrived at the Keepmoat Stadium for a second loan spell in January. Doncaster had agreed a deal for the midfielder for a permanent move but Grant wanted to keep his options open until the end of the season.

Grant made 21 appearances in the second half this season but Ferguson wasn`t impressed with his contribution, he found himself amongst the substitutes for the final game of the season at Hartlepool United, and Ferguson says the youngster has ben disappointing.

"The finances come into it because it was quite a large fee, but we knew that anyway," Ferguson told The Star.

"I think the boy has been disappointing.

"He`s not had the impact he made the first time he came last year.

"I think it could be down to him missing pre-season, then going to Ipswich and not playing much football while he was there. It might have had an effect.

"We`ve decided not to take the option on Conor because the fee and everything that comes with that would be a large amount of what I could spend."

Doncaster have so far signed Niall Mason from Aston Villa since the season ended last weekend. Mason spent the season on loan from Villa Park and his form saw him rewarded with a two-year deal at the Keepmoat.

Ferguson is once again looking to do his business early this summer as they prepare for next season in League One.
