New Years Honour List

The New Years honour list yet again fails to recognise (Sir) Francis Tierney for scoring that goal in the play-off final. The list also fails to recognise the contribution that the likes of Paul Barnes, Dave Penney & John Ryan had made to Doncaster Rovers and football in general.

However, former Rovers manager Lawrie McMenemy is appointed an MBE. He was the manager of the Rovers between 1968 and 1971, winning the Fourth Division Championship in 1968/69. He left Rovers to join Grimsby Town.

Lawrie McMenemy career highlights:

Manager Doncaster Rovers (Fourth Division Champions 1968/1969)

Manager Grimsby Town (Fourth Division Champions 1971/1972)

Manager Southampton (FA Cup Winners 1976, League Cup Runners up 1979 and First Division Runners-up 1983)

Assistant Manager England National team

Manager England ‘B’ team and England Under 21’s

Vice-President - The League Managers Association

Director of Football Southampton

Manager Northern Ireland National team

Hon. Manager Parliamentary FC (House of Commons)

Appointed FA Ambassador including visit to Afghanistan

Appointed Football Ambassador for England to the Special Olympics
