DRFC Former Defender Retires From Football

Former Doncaster Rovers defender Rob Jones has announced his retirement from football.

The 37-year-old has recently retired following his release by Hartlepool United at the end of last season.

Jones proved to be a talisman during his time with Doncaster and he captained the side to the 2012/13 League One title in a season where he made 49 appearances and he also chipped in with eight goals.

The towering defender made 78 appearances for Doncaster during a three-and-a-half stay at the Keepmoat but his time with the club was blighted through injury after suffering a serious neck injury in October 2013.

His time at Doncaster also saw him have a temporary spell in charge following the dismissal of Paul Dickov.

He made almost 400 career appearances in a fourteen-year career that saw him have spells with Stockport County, Macclesfield Town, Grimsby Town, Hibernian, Scunthorpe United, Sheffield Wednesday, Doncaster and Hartlepool.

Jones is now looking to move into coaching having completed his UEFA A licence and he is currently working with RIASA (Richmond International Academic and Soccer Academy) in Leeds.
