DRFC Ferguson - It Feels Like A Defeat

Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson felt his side deserved to win against Rotherham United after they were denied all three points by a stoppage time equaliser.

On loan Rotherham striker Kieffer Moore scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time to deny Doncaster all three points in the first South Yorkshire derby between the two sides in ten-years and the Doncaster boss says it felt like a defeat.

"We deserved to win the game and it was a real body blow at the end with virtually the last kick of the game," Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"We are deeply disappointed because it feels like a defeat in a game we deserved to win.

"On another day, nine times out of ten, we would have won the game."

Doncaster had led after Richard Wood put past his own goalkeeper just past the hour.

Wood tried to clear the ball but he could only direct the ball goal wards after a tantalising cross from Rodney Kongolo.

Rotherham came close to equalising when Jonson Clarke-Harris saw his shot hit the post and Will Vaulks follow up effort was deflected wide.

Doncaster looked like they had seen out the five minutes of stoppage time added by Premier League referee Graham Scott, but as the game ticked into a sixth minute, Rotherham created one last chance and they eventually equalised from it. Ian Lawlor denied David Ball with a good save, only for Kieffer Moore to steer the ball home at the second attempt after Craig Alcock blocked his initial shot.

It denied Doncaster a crucial three points in their efforts to pull away from the relegation places and they now face two tough looking away games at Fleetwood Town and Wigan Athletic.
