Ferguson - Like Two New Signings As Duo Return To Training

Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson says it will be like having two new signings in February with Luke McCullough and Alex Kiwomya closing in on a return.

The pair have missed the season so far through injury. McCullough, who missed most of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury, suffered another knee injury in July.

McCullough suffered the injury whilst away with Northern Ireland at a training camp.

Kiwomya only joined Doncaster in the summer from Chelsea on a three-year deal. The forward has been suffering with an illness called Guillain-Barre, a rare autoimmune disorder, an illness that attacks the nervous system.

The pair have now returned to training and are hoping to play in the development squad in the next few weeks before returning to training with the first team squad in February and Ferguson says it will be like having two new signings.

"McCullough and Kiwomya trained with us today," Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"It is the best Alex has looked, he was very sharp and he looked really good.

"The plan is for Luke to play 45 minutes next Tuesday and Alex the following Tuesday. We will get a few games into them and then hopefully back with the squad at the start of February.

"If they can come through that, it is like two new signings.

"Kiwomya in particular, it is like a new signing in January as opposed to when we wanted him in August. If we can get him through a couple of games and with the first team squad, it is a massive bonus for us.

"We have to be careful with Luke because he hasn`t played for a long time."

The duos return next month will ease the injury list at the Keepmoat.

Defender Danny Andrew is ruled out for the remainder of the season having been sidelined since August with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Striker Andy Williams is not expected to return until the spring after being sidelined since November with an ankle injury.
