DRFC Ferguson - Officials Need Shooting

DRFC Ferguson - Officials Need Shooting

Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson could have landed himself in hot water with the FA after slamming the standard of officials in League One.

Ferguson was talking after his side had been denied a penalty in the closing moments of the 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle, a game where the visitor`s equaliser came after what looked like a foul on Doncaster defender Andy Butler.

The Doncaster boss couldn`t hide his anger in his post-match interview and he had a lot to say about the standard of the officials.

'That is the most blatant penalty you will ever see,' Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield.

'There's nothing to think about.

'It's two incidents. The goal, he has just pulled Andy Butler to the floor.

'The linesman can see it and the linesman can see the penalty. He is looking right at it.

'We're just getting poor officials.

'The job is hard enough as it is. Do your job and clearly give the penalty.

'It's the clearest penalty you will see all season and their goal was a clear foul.

'The linesman is laughing at the end of the game about it.

'I think it's disgusting, It is absolutely disgusting the standard of refereeing and of all officials.

'To not see that is a disgrace.

'They are part time, the standards are appalling, the fitness levels are a disgrace.

'I've had enough of it. It's disgusting, the standards of referees at this level."

Doncaster looked to be heading for three points after Alfie Beestin had given them a first half lead.

The first incident to infuriate Ferguson was the equalising goal. Defender Ryan Edwards fired home from a tight angle from a Plymouth free-kick. Edwards was found in space at the back post after Doncaster defender Andy Butler was grounded, an incident Ferguson felt was a clear foul.

The incident that really upset Ferguson was in the final moments of the game when Doncaster midfielder James Coppinger went down in the penalty area. Coppinger looked to be caught by Plymouth defender Sonny Bradley but referee Andy Haines waved away the officials, much to the disgust of Ferguson.

Ferguson was then asked what he felt should be done with the officials.

'What can I do? Shoot them?" Ferguson continued.

'It'd be a good idea.

'They're not good enough, they're not fit enough. They can't keep up with play."

His comments are sure to land him in hot water with the FA.

It is a continual thing that we seem to get the rough end of the stick when it comes to refereeing decisions. I do think managers need half hour to calm down though before being interviewed. He will now be punished by the FA because he has had a microphone stuck in his face ten minutes after a couple of poor decisions that cost Doncaster three points.

If the club got a fiver for every time a fan said "the ref should be shot" then I know a striker or two we would be able to buy !
