DRFC Former Striker Retires And Admits 'I Was Crap'

DRFC Former Striker Retires And Admits 'I Was Crap'

Former Doncaster Rovers striker Chris Brown has announced his retirement from professional football.

Brown had two separate spells at Doncaster during a career that has also seen him have spells with Sunderland, Hull City, Norwich City, Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers and Bury.

The 33-year-old hasn`t played since being released by Bury at the end of the 2015/16 season and admits he knew it was time to call time on a career that saw him score 69 goals in 386 appearances.

"Since I left Bury last year I haven`t been doing much really," Brown told podcast Undr The Cosh.

"I think I knew.

"Some people say 'it`s come three years too late`. The Blackburn fans especially!

"I think you just know. I`ve been crap basically. Injuries have taken its toll and I think I`m just looking forward to moving forward now."

Brown scored 33 goals during his two spells at Doncaster including a successful loan spell in his first spell with the club as he helped them win the old Fourth Division championship in their first season back in the league in 2003/04.

The striker scored 10 goals in 22 appearances including a goal on his debut against Bristol Rovers.

His second spell with the club between 2011 and 2014 saw him score 23 goals in 97 appearances.

You can listen to the Podcast, where he is interviewed alongside another former Doncaster striker Jon Parkin.

There is strong language in the interview from the off.

Very funny to listen to, especially from about 13 minutes in when they talk about the experiment with the foreign players under Dean Saunders.
