'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lewis The Driver

Ex Doncaster Rovers coach and Oxford United legend, Mickey Lewis has gone from tackling the likes of Arsene Weneger in the Belle Vue dug-out to tackling traffic on the road.

Since leaving Doncaster Rovers in August, the former Rovers first team coach is now working as a van driver in Oxford four days a week. Lewis is still involved in football and is keeping his options open.

Lewis said: 'At Donny, everything was going so well. The club had their best season for 50 years and we reached the quarter-final of the cup, only to lose to Arsenal. It's a shame we couldn't have carried it on.

'I think it's a curse. I left Oxford just before they moved to a new ground and I left Doncaster just before they moved!

'It's manic at the moment and I'm keeping my options open. I have seen some coaching jobs and sent in my CVs, but nothing has come up. I'm not tied to anything. But I'm working seven-days-a-week.'

The ex-Oxford United star currently coaches Southern League side Abingdon United, as well as Oxford United Under 11s side.

It's a big change for him. Looks like he's been able to make a good step in the right direction, so many before him have just hit the bottle and given up when things have got hard.
