'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rovers spend £56,000 on agent fees

The Football League have today released the latest six-month figures for agents fees.

Between the 1st July to the 31st December, Rovers spent a total of £56k on agents fees. During this period, Rovers completed 29 transactions which consisted of 16 transfers, 6 contract renewals and 7 loan deals. For this period last season (1st July 04 to 31 December 04) Rovers spent £17k on agent fees.

The publication of these figures coincides with coments made by former Rovers player Mike Newell that 'bung' payments are rife in football.

Football League chairman Lord Brian Mawhinney said: 'By putting these figures into the public arena, League clubs have provided the catalyst for a wider debate about the role of agents in football.

I am encouraged that we have seen a reduction in the amount being paid to agents, this issues remains at the very top of our agenda and we will continue to act in an open and transparent way.'
