Crewe Alexandra vs. Doncaster Rovers

Gresty Road

22nd December 07

3:00 pm

Preview: Crewe V Doncaster

Doncaster Rovers travel to Crewe's Gresty Road in search of a vital 3 points in their battle for the play offs.

Vital Quotes:

'I've seen Doncaster a few times this year'

'They've got some great players and they have a clever way of playing that is unusual for this division. If you can't deal with that, then they are going to give you lots of problems. They are, without a doubt, the best team - between the two boxes - in the League. Their football is very well thought through, everybody knows what they are doing - and it's difficult to defend against. One thing's for sure; we will need to deal with them through midfield, which is a big part of their play, to have a chance in the game.'

Ryan Lowe
The 29 year is currently Crewe's top scorer of the season scoring 5 goals, 4 of which were in Coca Cola League One.

Lowe started his football career in the non leagues. After impressing for Burscough, Lowe earned his chance in the professional game with Shrewsbury Town.

Lowe then went on to make 194 appearances for Shrewsbury netting 37 goals before being snapped up by Chester City in 2005.

Lowe scored 17 goals in his 42 appearances for Chester City and was the clubs top scorer in the 2005/06 season.

After a successful trial at Crewe Alexandra, Lowe was rewarded with a 1 year contract with the Cheshire Club.

In his first season at League One level, Lowe bagged a total of 12 goals in 44 appearances.

Jason Price
Doncaster Rovers 'Afro Goal Machine' may be set to start in this League One encounter after making a substitute appearance in last sundays defeat to League One rivals Yeovil.

Fans favourite 'Pricey' came on in the 65th minute to replace former Manchester United man Mark Wilson.

Jason Price was involved in Rovers' injury time goal when the ball fell to Price in a crowded box forcing an own goal by Yeovils Terry Skiverton.

Arguably Price's biggest moment in a Doncaster shirt was the area final of last seasons Johnstones Paint Trophy area final. Rovers were trailing 5-4 (Agg) to the weekends opponents Crewe Alexandra. 20 minutes after Paul Heffernan had scored to keep Doncaster in the game, Jason Price with his skill and trickery took the ball through two of Crewe's defenders only to be bought down in the penalty area. The resulting penalty was converted by Paul Heffernan to send the Rovers level.

Jason Price was then the hero of Doncaster with a last minute goal to send Doncaster to the Millenium Stadium where they were to be named winners of a national trophy for the first time in the clubs history.

Match Facts & Stats

Last Time
The last time that these two sides met was earlier on this season at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium.

A goal from Paul Heffernan along with a Danny Woodards own goal sealed a comfortable 2-0 win for the South Yorkshire side.

The game also marked the return to action of Jason Price after finally recovering from a long term injury picked up in the Johnstones Paint Trophy final in April 2007.
