Port Vale 0 - Doncaster Rovers 2

Vale Park

29/07/2008 19.30

Attendance:

Port Vale 0-2 Doncaster Rovers

Doncaster continued their pre season programme against opponents from last season Port Vale. Doncaster included two new trialists, Jos Van Nieuwstadt from Excelsior Rotterdam and Richard Keogh from Bristol City.
Doncaster made most of the early running in the game and eventually took the lead on the half hour when Richie Wellens scored. Wellens met a Brian Stock corner sweetly on the volley at the far post to guide it in at the near post. Port Vale then had a run of corners before half time and a few long distance efforts without ever seriously troubling Sullivan in the Doncaster goal.
Doncaster made six changes to the starting line up for the second half. Doncaster control large portions of the second half without seriously threatening the Port Vale goal. Port Vale started to get back into the game and eventually got the ball in the net only for the Linesman to rule out for offside. Doncaster eventually secured victory in the last minute when Lewis Guy controlled the ball and slammed it past the helpless Vale keeper from close range.
After Saturdays victory over Newcastle this was another good workout for the players ahead of the first game of the season at Derby.
