DRFC - Doncaster get the Blues

Doncaster came away from St Andrews empty handed but will feel they deserved at least a point after a spirited performance.

Rovers controlled long periods of the game against an off colour Birmingham, the Blues frustration showed after 24 minutes when a horrendous two footed lunge by Nafti on James Coppinger saw him shown a straight red and the player could have no argument with the decision.

Rovers with the extra man were causing Birmingham problems and Lewis Guy was worrying the Blues defence with his pace.

The half time whistle blew and the Rovers could be quite happy with their first half performance against the Championship favourites.

Birmingham took top scorer Kevin Phillips off at half time and replaced him with Marcus Bent.
Within a minute of the restart Bent was in the action flicking on a Ridgewell free kick, with Mills the wrong side of Blues forward Cameron Jerome the forward was able to lash the ball past a hapless Neil Sullivan.

Birmingham could have increased their lead a few minutes later when Bent sent Seb Larsson clear but he shot straight at Sullivan.

Rovers soon got back in the game and took a shoot on sight policy with Wellens having two efforts from long range.

The introduction of Darren Byfield and Jason Price just after the hour gave Rovers more fire power.
It wasn`t long before Byfield was in the thick of the action and a 25 yard effort was tipped onto the post at full stretch by Blues keeper Taylor.

As much as we tried we couldn`t find the equaliser and Blues threatened the Rovers goal near the end with breakaway efforts.

Even though we only played 10 men for 65 minutes Rovers will still take great confidence from the fact that they gave the Championship favourites such a hard game in their own back yard.

We now have the chance to bounce back quickly form this defeat when entertaining Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.
