Referee:

It was the same old story for Doncaster Rovers against near neighbours Sheffield Wednesday.

I feel like a broken record when talking about Rovers, played well, had chances then concede from a set piece.

Once again Rovers inability to find the back of the net cost them as they lost their eleventh game of the season and six of them have been by the odd goal.

Richie Wellens was back in the starting line up after injury and John Spicer made his first League start after impressing with two goals in the midweek friendly win against Aston Villa.

Rovers started well and Hird and Wellens had shots saved whilst Mills had a header go just wide.

At the other end O`Connor Clarke and Tudgay had Sullivan working hard in the Rovers goal.

Just when it looked like the sides would go in level at half time Rover once again conceded from a set piece, Clarke rose to put his header past Sullivan and given Wednesday the lead at the interval.

Rovers made changes at half time bringing on Guy and Hayter for Woods and Wilson showing their intent to attack.

Wednesday started the second half well but it was Rovers who started to enjoy the majority of the play.

The visitors were trying their luck from distance and O`Connor and Wellens both had long range efforts.

Rovers really should have equalised on the hour when Hird somehow failed to convert an easy chance for Rovers, an effort that somehow sums up Rovers season.

Rovers were really searching now for the equaliser, Stock and Price both having efforts on goal come to nothing.

Soon after Rovers felt they should have had a penalty when Price was bundled over in the box but the referee waved away the appeals.

Wednesday brought on Sodje to try and liven up their attack and he was soon being a nuisance and his dipping shot just missed the target.

Our afternoon was summed up in the last minute when in a good position Hayter`s shot went well over the bar.

Once again a decent performance but our lack of goals is evident and unless we bring in a striker that can score goals the reports on our games will be the same all season.

Our next game is against the Tractor Boys of Ipswich live on Sky next Saturday evening. We usually do well in front of the TV cameras so I shall be doing a lot of praying over the next week!

I must admit if Leeds don't agree a deal with Malcolm Christie I would give him a go.
