DRFC - Rovers done at the death

Doncaster went to Selhurst Park hoping to get back on an unbeaten run against Crystal Palace.

Rovers made changes with Richie Wellens, Paul Heffernan and Stuart Elliott coming into the side. There was also the surprise inclusion of Jos Van Nieuwstadt on the bench.

Paul Heffernan had the first chance when his shot just drifted wide of the post in the early minutes.

Shefki Kuqi had the Eagles first chance on goal but his effort drifted wide.

Rovers took the lead on the quarter hour when after a quick free kick from Martin Woods, Paul Heffernan got on the end of it to see his header go in off the post.

Rovers lead didn`t last long when Kuqi went through on goal only for Matt Mills to be adjudged to clip his heels and the referee pointed straight to the spot. Worse was to come with the referee quickly producing the red card and sending off Mills.

Kuqi got up to take the penalty and blast it past Sullivan to make the game all square.

With Rovers having an extra defender on the pitch they went back to a back four and left Heffernan as the loan striker.

Ifill had Palace`s next chance but his effort was saved by Sullivan.
Rovers were still creating though and Elliott had a chance after a mix up at the back for Palace but his effort went wide.

Ifill thought he`d given Palace the lead on the stroke of half time but his effort was ruled out for a push.

As you would expect Palace took the game to Rovers in the second half, Fonte and McCarthy both having early second half efforts.

Sullivan was called upon to make a good save with his legs after a shot from Scannell moved in the air and caused him a lot of problems.

Palace really went looking for the winner late on and some good desperate defending looked like keeping them out until Alan Lee met a cross to blast into the Rovers net and break the hearts of Rovers fans and players alike.

There was six minutes of added time but Rovers had no answer to Lee`s goal and for the second time in a week Rovers went down to a late winner.

Next up are table toppers Wolves at The Keepmoat and Rovers will have to do without the services of Matt Mills who will now serve a suspension for his sending off.

Once again done at the death, we are just not having any running. The sending off was very harsh and totally changed the game.
