DRFC - Rovers take derby spoils

Doncaster entertained local rivals Sheffield Wednesday hoping to continue with their recent good run.

Both teams stuck with the same sides that won their respective games last Saturday.

Wednesday came out the blocks quickly and pressed Doncaster back into their half for the first ten minutes without ever really threatening Sullivan in the Rovers goal.

Doncaster then began to take control of the game, chances fell to Heffernan and Woods but both didn`t trouble the Wednesday keeper.

Heffernan then missed a gilt edged chance to put Rovers in front but he somehow managed to scoop the ball over the bar when it looked harder to miss from inside the six yard box.

Rovers were totally dominating the half now and further chances fell to Hird and Heffernan again.

Rovers pressure finally paid off just past the half hour when Heffernan headed in to give them a thoroughly deserved lead.

Rovers continued to dominate up to half time and good chances fell to Heffernan, Stock and Wellens to increase the lead but they had to be happy with just the one goal lead at half time.

Doncaster continued where they left off in the first half, Paul Heffernan had another great chance early in the half but his shot was brilliantly blocked by Beevers.

Michael Gray had a rare chance for Wednesday but his shot went wide of the post.

Leon Clarke then had a good chance for the visitors but he shot straight at Sullivan.

Heffernan then missed another great chance when his header somehow missed and Wood almost put through his own goal clearing the ball.

Clarke had the next effort for Wednesday; a good ball into the box was my by Clarke and he headed against the bar.

Wednesday were now enjoying much more possession and putting pressure on the Rovers goal.

Wellens had a chance to put Rovers two up with just over ten minutes remaining but his rasping shot just cleared the bar.

Into stoppage time and Wednesday`s James O`Connor had a great chance to equalise but put over the bar.

A great three points for Rovers which sees them climb to 16th in the Championship table.

Another great three points, we are edging closer to safety. I think another five wins and we are guaranteed survival.
