Inspired Sullivan earns Rovers point

Doncaster battled to a goalless draw at Reading with both sides lacking a killer touch in front of goal.

Neil Sullivan was Rovers hero making three or four tremendous saves on a barmy warm sunny September afternoon in Berkshire.

The closest the home side came to breaking the deadlock came in the first half when Brian Howard`s long range effort looked like it was harmlessly drifting over the bar, Sullivan left it, thinking it was going out only to see the ball hit the top of the crossbar.

Rovers best spell of the game came in the final ten minutes of the first half, their best chance came when Reading player Cummings deflected the ball goalwards from a Woods free kick and Federici made a great save to keep it out.

Rovers drifted deeper and deeper in the second half and looked happy to be claiming a point for most of it, it need two great full stretch saves from Sullivan to keep the scores level in the final twenty minutes.

Billy Sharp made his debut for Rovers coming off the bench inside the final fifteen minutes. He never had a sniff in front of goal with balls generally being over hit or just wayward when hit towards him.

Sharp almost set up Lewis Guy when his good low ball into the middle was just collected by Federici in the Reading goal before Guy got on the end of it.

Rovers held on for a well deserved point and now go to top of the table West Brom in midweek.

I thought it was a poor game, Reading are going to struggle this season, they haven't got enough this season to be near the top. I believe if Rovers had gone at them rather than be happy with a point they could have come away with a win.

Why start the new striker on the bench, then bring him on so late? Start the game with him and sub him off if he's not fully match fit, surely.

Was a poor game, we (Reading) had the better of the chances but Sullivan was in inspired form. Good to see Oster playing well for you guys, always rated him when he was with us and doesn't often get the credit he deserves.
