Doncaster Rovers missed the chance to move out of the relegation zone after losing 3-0 at Burnley.
Burnley started the game firmly on the front foot creating a number of chances in the opening half hour.
Rovers had just started to get a foot in the game when they fell behind.
Sam Hird was penalised for a foul on Chris McCann in the penalty area and Jay Rodriguez netted from the spot.
Rovers were almost level within minutes when Billy Sharp headed against a post.
James Coppinger went close to equalising for Rovers in the second half when Lee Grant made a fine save to deny the Rovers midfielder.
With Rovers searching for an equaliser in the closing minutes, Burnley made the most of the gaps in the Rovers defence and Martin Paterson made it 2-0 inside the final ten minutes when he reacted first to head home after Rodriguez hit the crossbar.
Deep into stoppage time, Burnley made it 3-0 when Hird completed a miserable afternoon when he put through his own goal.
Rovers are on the road again on Saturday when they face Watford at Vicarage Road.
Watford started their festive period with a 1-1 home draw with promotion chasing Cardiff City.
