Rovers miss great opportunity

Doncaster Rovers missed a great chance to put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack at the top of League One.

Rovers had to settle for a draw against struggling Portsmouth at the Keepmoat Stadium after Chris Brown had given the home side a first half lead.

Jed Wallace equalised for the visitors with fifteen minutes remaining to deny Rovers what would have been a massive three points.

Rovers had chances to wrap the game up in. Billy Paynter failed to beat Simon Eastwood in the Portsmouth goal when in behind the defence and in the second half, both David Cotterill and Rob Jones went close.

Portsmouth almost claimed all three points when Wallace fired wide minutes after equalising for the visitors.

With second placed Sheffield United losing heavily at Stevenage, it was a missed chance for Rovers. Brentford are now in second place behind Rovers after their late winner at Griffin Park. Brentford won thanks to a last minute penalty to move to within two points of Rovers at the top of the table.
