Doncaster Rovers started life back in the championship with a home defeat to Blackpool.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until two goals in the last two minutes earned the visitors a 3-1 win.

Rovers handed debuts to Ross Turnbull, Bongani Khumalo and Mark Duffy in Paul Dickov`s first game in charge and there were returns for Dean Furman and Richie Wellens.

Chris Brown came close to opening the scoring inside ten minutes for Rovers but he headed just wide with the Blackpool goalkeeper stranded.

Turnbull had to be alert for Rovers soon afterwards when he knocked a shot cum cross from Bobby Grant out for a corner.

Blackpool took the lead from the corner. Turnbull could only parry Barry Ferguson`s shot from the edge of the area and Steven Davies was on hand to bundle home at the second attempt.

Rovers tried in vain to get back on level terms in the first half but Gilks in the Blackpool goal had not been tested.

Rob Jones brought Rovers level on the hour when his powerful header beat Gilks and a host of Blackpool players in the six-yard area.

Rovers went looking for a winner and Kyle Bennett and then Jones had chances to give them the lead.

Tom Ince missed a good chance to give the visitors the lead late on but he could only fire wide after getting in behind the Rovers defence.

It was only to be a temporary let off for Rovers when Gary MacKenzie headed home for the visitors with just two minutes remaining.

Rovers desperately went looking for an equaliser and Jones again saw a header go wide of a Blackpool deflection.

From the resulting corner, goalkeeper Ross Turnbull came up but Blackpool broke and Tom Ince scored from just inside the Rovers half when he guided his shot from distance into an empty net.

A disappointing start for Rovers, who look like they desperately need a striker if they are to survive in this division.
