Rovers slip closer to relegation zone

Doncaster Rovers slipped closer to the relegation zone with one game remaining as they lost 3-1 at home to Reading.

Rovers are now just one point outside the relegation places but their destiny is now out of their hands with Birmingham one point behind but with two games remaining.

James Coppinger looked like he had put Rovers on the way to an important win as he scored at the far post after good work from Billy Sharp to give them an half time lead.

The game changed just past the hour when Paul Quinn was adjudged to have fouled Adam Le Fondre in the penalty area and the former Rotherham striker stepped up to smash the ball past Sam Johnstone.

Just as it looked like petering out into a draw, Pavel Pogrebnyak headed the royals ahead with less than five minutes remaining and the Russian striker was on hand again to score a third deep into injury time with Rovers desperately searching for an equaliser.

The result means that if Birmingham can take a point from their remaining two games, Rovers will have to go to champions Leicester City on the final day looking for at least a point. Two defeats for Birmingham, who have Wigan at home and Bolton away in their final two games means Rovers will be safe whatever happens at Leicester.
