Doncaster Rovers made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they continue to enjoy the festive period with a 3-0 win against Northampton Town.

Goals from James Coppinger, Niall Mason and Andy Butler ensured that Doncaster followed up their win at Bristol Rovers on Saturday with another three points.

Doncaster went ahead just past the half hour when Coppinger forced the ball home at the second attempt from close range after John Marquis had been thwarted after good work from Tommy Rowe.

The lead was doubled just before the break when Mason scored from the penalty spot for the second game in a row after Marquis had been fouled inside the area. Mason beat Matt Ingram in the Northampton goal despite the keeper going the right way. It was a killer blow for Northampton, who could have levelled moments earlier when Ian Lawlor in the Doncaster goal denied Shaun McWilliams.

Doncaster sealed their biggest home win of the season just past the hour when Butler forced the ball home from close range after Mathieu Baudry had been denied.

Doncaster were worthy winners with Rowe, Whiteman, Marquis and May all having good chances and May saw a late effort come back off the post with the striker being substituted soon afterwards.
