Doncaster Rovers continued their perfect festive period with a third straight win on Friday evening.

Doncaster beat Rochdale 2-0 thanks to first half goals from Ben Whiteman and Alfie May to move into the top half of the division ahead of today`s games.

Whiteman fired Doncaster ahead after just four minutes. The on loan Sheffield United midfielder fired a left foot shot home from the edge of the area for his sixth goal for the club.

Doncaster were full of confidence and Andy Butler, Mathieu Baudry and James Coppinger all went close to extending the lead in the opening quarter of the game.

Rochdale had chances to draw level. Ian Lawlor making a good save to deny Matt Done and then Andrew Cannon somehow lifted the ball over from close range.

Doncaster doubled their lead just before the half hour when May saw his deflected shot beat Josh Lillis in the Rochdale goal. It was the striker`s first goal since September and his sixth goal of the season.

John Marquis then fired over for Doncaster before the break as they controlled the game.

Lawlor continued to thwart Rochdale in the second half and restore his clean sheet as he made saves from Henderson and Oliver Rathbone.

Doncaster will now hope to finish the festive period with another three points when they travel to promotion chasing Peterborough United on Monday.
